Some things I enjoy...

The Lady of my ol' ranch house and I recently watched a DVD by Elizabeth Gaskell called "Wives and Daughters". It was my first exposure to Elizabeth Gaskell and I enjoyed it enormously. We have enjoyed watching such things together very much... ...we also noted how very similar Jane Austin's work is. In fact we have managed to collect DVDs of all (I think) of her stuff except "Northanger Abby" and we even have some repeats---some A&E and BBC productions of the same thing like "Pride and Prejudice" (one of my favorites) and have watched most of them repeatedly.
Now I'm not too sure what Ol' 'Lanche thinks of these stories---I tend to get the idea he would rather be grazing out of earshot somewhere when we go to watching them. But I do wonder if there are a few other folks who like these sort of things too. What say you all?

Jane Austen's novels are SUPERB! ^_^ I've watched (and, of course, read) 'Mansfield Park', 'Persuasion', 'Pride and Predjudice' (one with Colin Firth and another with Keira Knightley), and part of 'Sense and Sensibility', but haven't run across 'Northanger Abbey' (although I've heard it was made for TV once). This post makes me HAPPY! ^_^

Anyway, I've only read Elizabeth Gaskell's book 'Ruth' and wonder how in the world could a DVD be by Elizabeth Gaskell, the Victorian writer? ?_? Because, it seems to me, she wrote a book that another person produced as a DVD. ^_^

Crys---My insufficient wordsmithing skills are revealed! I suppose if Elizabeth Gaskell were to have made a DVD in her time--she may well have been considered to be very strange indeed! Glad to provide occasion for glee! Chuckle... 8~)

DF---So glad for the discovery too!

Ryu---I agree Jane Austen is great---I discovered her long after I was in High School though...

ryc: surely people do not always hide their hearts. sometimes people don't even know their own heart. i would like to think people show their hearts at least once in awhile. especially when calling each other "friend".

what i meant in my post is that because i am graduating and moving on, i don't know who of my friends will make an effort to visit and stay in touch with me, since they have their own lives and are going their own directions towards various degrees and professions; even now i'm working and am not seeing them as often; and i'm also wondering if there is someone out there who would want to share a life together with me.

Also, another "Amen" to God being "a friend who sticks closer than a brother" [Prov. 18:24]. ^__^

I read Elizabeth Gaskell's short story "The Old Nurse's Tale" for english class this year, and really liked it, although it was less Jane Austen and more classic gothic ghost story.

Have you seen the new Pride and Prujudice... I did and this year was the first time I saw the 5 hour version too! I enjoy Jane Austen movies and have read I think 2 of her books.

I watched Wives and Daughters with my sister once.... wish the ending was done differently....

I enjoy movies that take plave in the 1800's.... recently watched Pirates of the Carribean, really enjoyed that and the 2nd ones coming out this summer! Fun!

It's just great when there are really good movies to be seen, when you find another good one! Ya know!
